Frequently Asked Questions
What ports should I open to enable Xcalibur Global management? | Xcalibur Global management protocol can be configured to use any ports numbers, hence any ports can be used for Xcalibur communication. | Return to Top |
What is Xcalibur Global proxy? | Xcalibur Proxy Server (XPS) is used as a mediator between Fast Connected LANs and Front End Servers residing over slow network links. The proxy role is divided into two major parts:
1. To serve as a software distribution point for the local LAN Thin Clients, confining the deployment traffic to the LAN.
2. To filter and schedule outgoing client-information traffic sent from the LAN to Front End Servers to reduce WAN traffic.
In global organizations wherever clients are connected to a high speed LAN that has a low bandwidth connection to a central datacenter network where typically Front End Servers reside, an Xcalibur Proxy Server should be used | Return to Top |
How can Xcalibur Global detect a new client during initial deployment? | In any communication scenario, client devices must be configured with communication parameters in order to successfully connect to their destined management servers. These parameters can be obtained in various ways including DHCP, SNMP, Xcalibur Policy and more | Return to Top |
Can Xcalibur Global block unauthorized client connections? | The Xcalibur management system has built-in device and user authentication mechanisms. This ensures that only authorized (registered) thin clients and users can be connected to the system. Various rules and settings can be applied on both unauthenticated and authenticated devices and users, allowing administrators to strictly distinguish between them while managing both. | Return to Top |
What server OS are supported by XG? | Windows Server 2003 | Return to Top |
What is the management console used by XG? | In order to provide administrator with a familiar management console Xcalibur Global uses standard MMC snap-in administration tool. Xcalibur Global has two snap-ins: Xcalibur Directory Manager, Xcalibur Farm Manager. | Return to Top |
Can multiple Xcalibur Global consoles open and manage simultaneously? | Xcalibur Global allows a delegation of administrator rights on a domain, OU, Farm or Site bases. Both Xcalibur MMC and Front End Servers can be installed several times in order to allow Redundancy, Load Balancing, distributed management and scalability | Return to Top |
Can I manage a specific (single) device using Xcalibur Global? | Xcalibur policies can be applied to a Domain, OU, User or device. Other administration tasks can also be configured based on a Device, site, farm, scope or user. | Return to Top |
What happens if a client is moved from one OU to another? | Xcalibur Policies are passed by inheritance from a parent object to a child object. When moving a device from one OU to another, the device will inherit different Xcalibur policies, hence change the device settings. | Return to Top |
What is Xcalibur Global All Thin-Clients Container | All Thin-Clients node is an Xcalibur Directory Manager Container that enables the administrator to view all thin clients currently or previously connected to the XG. Administrators can get information regarding the device hardware and software information and to use Xcalibur Global monitoring tools to | Return to Top |
